The Cool and Casual Look of Cardigans

Let's face it-runway style high fashion was not engineered with breathing or consuming freely in mind. Still, because we take our appearances seriously, we suck it in, lace it up, and paint a grin on our faces that, for the most part, doesn't hint to the rest of the population how miserable we legitimately are. Even when we are in casual situations, we still want to look our best, even at the price of our comfort.

But it doesn't have to be that way. You can look great and still exercise your need to breathe by adding a few under-appreciated garments to your wardrobe: cardigans. Now when we say under-appreciated, we don't mean that cardigans are not fashion worthy. What we mean is that as elegant, fashionable, and versatile as they are, the median consumer is ignorant to their usefulness. Worry not, however. We are about to educate you.

The beauty of Cardigans

The overwhelming beauty of cardigans is that they can, quite literally, be whatever you wish for them to be. Now, this isn't to say that you can utilize the same exact cardigan for an afternoon of rugby then turn around and wear it to the grand ball. (Don't even think about wearing whatever less than full black tie attire to a formal event!) However, you can add distinct cardigans to your wardrobe that will be thorough in both casual and dressy situations.

Cardigans tend to be more fitted than jumpers and sweaters, although you can legitimately find those that are more loose fitting if you should so desire. Bear in mind, though, that it is the tastefully form fitted appearance of cardigans that make them work in dressier situations. After all, nothing says "I don't care" quite like a baggy, oversized sweater. Remember, you want to look cool and chic, not sloppy.

Just because cardigans are the perfect cool and casual garment, that doesn't mean they are not versatile. You can take that same cardigan you wore to the sports bar last weekend, slip a button down shirt below it, add a tie and a nice pair of trousers, and be set to go on about his work day while retaining respect among his peers and employer. What more could you ask for beyond a great, multi-functional top that is also incredibly comfortable?

Choosing the Right Cardigans

When selecting cardigans to add to your wardrobe, it is very difficult to go wrong. You have the leisure to choose virtually any color, in case, granted that you are aware of which colors are thorough for office attire and which are best reserved for your personal outings. In terms of design, both rounded crew necks and v-necks work equally well in whether setting, although the v-neck does lend itself slightly easier to layering and gives a somewhat dressier appearance.

Ultimately, however, as long as you don't choose cardigans that are very poorly designed, your wardrobe will be all the best for their addition.
